Teacher Effectiveness

The goal of the Office of Teacher Effectiveness is to be a resource for supporting and enhancing the pedagogical practices of teachers; and to provide administrators with tools to assist and “norm” their observational practices to support those teachers. Included materials/resources can be utilized to foster teachers’ professional practice while promoting improved student learning outcomes; what teachers should know and be able to do to provide each learner in their class access to curriculum content. Available resources will support teachers in appropriately and strategically plannning instruction based on thier students’ functional, academic, behavioral, emotional and social needs. Our philosophy is “Mentoring is the foundation for building an effective teacher” and therefore we include additional opportunities for School-Based Mentor training. Curriculum materials also focus on building the knowledge, skills, and understandings critical for new teacher mentors.

Embedded and linked documents will serve to assist teachers and administrators in meeting the DOE Expectation for utilizing Danielson’s Framework for Teachers (FFT) as a tool for identifying effective teaching practice. There is an emphasis on alignment of the framework to the Common Core Learning Standards (CCLS) and students’ job-related tasks. “Those who expect moments of change to be comfortable and free of conflict have not learned their history.” Reflection will be the tool for teachers to plan more direct and purposeful instruction for their students.

Materials will focus on how teachers: 

  • Acquire knowledge of each of student, and demonstrate knowledge of student development and learning to promote achievement for all students; 
  • Know the content they are responsible for teaching, and plan instruction that ensures growth and achievement for all students;
  • Implement instruction that engages and challenges all students to meet or exceed the learning standards; 
  • Work with all students to create a dynamic learning that supports achivement and growth; 
  • Use multiple measures to assess and document student growth, evaluate instructional effectiveness, and modify instruction; 
  • Demonstrate professional responsibility and engage relevant stakeholders to maximize student growth, devlopment, and learning; and 
  • Set informed goals and strive for continuous professional growth.
