The New York State Education Department applied for, and was granted, a waiver allowing the New York City Department of Education (DOE) increased flexibility in the provision of No Child Left Behind programs. Among these options, the previously mandated Supplemental Educational Services (SES tutoring) program will no longer be offered by the DOE. Instead, the DOE will provide schools identified by the state as Priority and Focus Schools with funding so they may offer other types of Expanded Learning Time (ELT) programs through the MTAC process. These programs may or may not include student tutoring and not all Priority and Focus schools are required to participate. For specific information concerning your child’s school, contact their Principal or the Principal’s office.
