The School for Cooperative Technical Education or Co-op Tech, offers 17 different certification courses in a variety of careers from culinary arts to computer networking. The program has a half-day model where students can attend their DOE high school or GED program for half of the day and attend Co-op Tech for the other half of the school day. This institute is designed for 9th grade Teachers, Guidance Counselors, Social Workers, Programmers and Administrators. It is intended to help capacity-builders refine systems/structures of a college going culture that engages students with disabilities from the onset. Youth development points, special education points, instructional points, and ASEs in addition to schools staff should attend.

Each year, the Charles Robertson Scholarship Award recognizes ONE MALE GRADUATING STUDENT and ONE FEMALE GRADUATING STUDENT from a BROOKLYN public high school. Schools are encouraged to submit applications for up to two eligible candidates.
hrough the NYC Gifting Initiative, the Overcoming Obstacles Life Skills Program has been made available free of charge to NYC public middle schools and high schools. Attending the half-day training session is the first step of the enrollment process. Participants will learn about the program and how to best bring life skills instruction to their students. High School students 15-21 years old who have completed at least one year of high school and have fallen behind in credits have the opportunity to meet with representatives from Transfer Schools, YABCs and GED programs to learn about how to enroll. FREE professional development opportunities provided by NYS-TEACHS and the NYS Education Department for NYC school staff and administrators working with students and families in temporary housing.
To address Federal and State requirements to better prepare students for responsible internet use, schools will receive a CD of instructional materials by November 1 from “iSafe,” a NYCDOE curriculum partner. This resource is designed to educate students on the elements of good digital citizenship and addresses topics such as cyber bullying, appropriate behavior on social networking sites, and responsible electronic communication. In addition, free instructional resources for students are available online. Schools may opt to register for any of the following: iSafe, providing free K-12 curriculum; Common Sense Media, providing lesson plans and videos for students in grades K-12; and EverFi, providing gaming materials for students in grades 6-8. These resources support guidance set forth in the NYCDOE Internet Acceptable Use and Safety Policy (IAUSP).

Recruitment has begun for Fall 2012 CUNY Start , a low-cost, intensive full-time program providing an alternative to typical remedial classes offered to CUNY students needing preparation in reading, writing and math before entering credit classes. College Connections Project at the Manhattan Educational Opportunity Center provides college application fee waivers to low-income adults age 19 and over. The application fee waivers can be used to pay the application fees to CUNY ($65/$70) and to SUNY Empire State College ($50). View additional information here
