Peter J. Calandrella serves as the Staten Island representative on the Panel for Educational Policy. Mr. Calandrella is a married father of four children who all attend New York City Public Schools. Born and raised in Brooklyn, Mr. Calandrella has lived with his family in Staten Island for over 20 years. Mr. Calandrella has been an active advocate for improved public education, transportation, school athletic programs and school safety. He has served on Community Education Council, District 31, which is the largest school district covering all of Staten Island for 10 years and has also served on a SLT. Through his advocacy work as a CEC member he has conducted many schools visits, has interacted with the Districts PTA’s, School staff and has testified before the City Council as well as other agencies regarding multiple issues relating to schools, parents & stakeholders and educators.
Mr. Calandrella attended public school in Brooklyn where he graduated from South Shore High School. Mr. Calandrella received a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, with Honors, from St. John’s University in Queens and a Law Degree (JD) from Golden Gate University, with Highest Honors, in San Francisco CA. He has been recognized as a scholar athlete while playing football in both high school and college. Mr. Calandrella was appointed and served as a Deputy District Attorney for the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s office in CA and as Senior Assistant District Attorney in the sex crimes/special victim’s bureau with the Brooklyn (Kings County) District Attorney’s Office. He now works in the private sector as a Senior Trial Attorney for AIG.
