Leadership Team

The Department's leadership team is led by a Chancellor and consists of skilled leaders from education, government, and business.

Panel for Educational Policy

The Panel for Educational Policy is the governance body for the Department of Education, which took the place of the Board of Education when Mayor Bloomberg gained control of the schools in 2002. 

Community and Citywide Education Councils

CECs hold monthly public meetings, and contribute to shaping educational policy in their districts. Each CEC has 12 members, including nine parents selected by the district's PA/PTAs, two members appointed by the Borough President, and one student member selected by the Community Superintendent.
