Chancellor Joel I. Klein

Joel I. Klein has served as New York City's schools chancellor since July 2002, leading our over 1,600 schools and innovative reforms to improve student performance.

Panel for Educational Policy

The Panel for Educational Policy is the governance body for the Department of Education, which took the place of the Board of Education when Mayor Bloomberg gained control of the schools in 2002. Board of Education.

Community and Citywide Education Councils

CECs hold monthly public meetings, and contribute to shaping educational policy in their districts. Each CEC has 12 members, including nine parents selected by the district's PA/PTAs, two members appointed by the Borough President, and one student member selected by the Community Superintendent.
