About Our Schools

The New York City Department of Education consists of over 1,600 schools that serve about 1.1 million students each year. Learn more about how we're organized.

Children First

New York City's public schools are managed under the principles of Children First: leadership, empowerment, and accountability.

District Family Advocates

Our District Family Advocates provide a local avenue for parents to address concerns.

Community and High School Superintendents

Community Superintendents manage schools that serve grades K-8, while High School Superintendents manage our high schools.

School Support Organizations

School Support Organizations provide academic support services to schools and students.

Integrated Service Center

The Integrated Service Center provides professional services for schools, like payroll, human resources, and food service. Parents and families rarely need to interact directly with the ISC.

Borough Directors

Borough Directors are responsible for working with Community and High School Superintendents, as well as principals and school leaders, to manage schools in each of the five boroughs.

Talent Office

It takes talented teachers and high-quality school leaders  to ensure that every New York City student succeeds.
