New York State Assessments and the Common Core
NYS now measures student ability on Common Core standards through their end-of-year tests for grades 3-8. Over the next two years, the state is expected to transition test formats and other summative tests, such as Regents, to better embody the Common Core.

- Content aligns with the Common Core standards.
- Existing test format and structure remains.
|Regents: ELA, Integrated Algebra and Geometry
- PARCC assessments are expected to be administered online for schools with appropriate infrastructure updates, and therefore may include items and tasks that are more engaging and interactive than typical paper-and-pencil tests.
- The PARCC summative assessments will be comprised of two parts: a Performance-Based Assessment administered as close to the end of the school year as possible, and an End-of-Year Assessment administered after approximately 90% of the school year is complete.
