Office of English Language Learners’ Student Writing Contest

The Office of English Language Learners held a contest for current and former ELLs as well as any student enrolled in a dual language program. 

 

OELL cannot express how much we enjoyed reviewing the work that students submitted to the Office of English Language Learners’ Student Writing Contest.  There were many deserving entries, which is certainly a testament to the high quality education the DOE’s students, including its ELL and English-proficient students enrolled in dual language programs, are receiving.

 

Please find the results of the contest below, and congratulations to all of our participants citywide!

 

Kindergarten – 1st Grade:

Our K-1 winner attends P.S. 020 John Bowne (Queens)

We had two second place winners, these students attend:

·         P.S. 242 Leonard P. Stavisky Early Childhood School (Queens)

·         P.S. 019 The Curtis School (Staten Island)

 

Grades 2 – 5:

Our 2-5 winner attends P.S. 020 John Bowne (Queens)

We had three second place winners, these students attend:

·         P.S. 086 Kingsbridge Heights (the Bronx)

·         P.S. 176 (the Bronx)

·         P.S. 067 Charles A. Dorsey (Brooklyn).

 

Grades 6 – 8:

Our 6-8 winner attends Andries Hudde (Brooklyn)

We had two second place winners, these students attend:

·         P.S. 109 (Brooklyn)

·         P.S. 015 Institute for Environmental Learning (the Bronx)

 

Grades 9 – 12:

Our 9-12 winner attends Queens Vocational and Technical High School

We had two second place winners, these students attend:

·         GED Plus at Alternative Education Complex (Manhattan)

·         Edward R. Murrow High School (Brooklyn)
