Community Based Organizations

You will receive logistical information about the upcoming teacher professional development sessions from your field office (for general teacher PD) or Kelly Medora (for WSS PD). As a reminder, the dates for upcoming professional development sessions are below.

Bronx and Manhattan	Brooklyn, Staten Island, and Queens
April 11	April 23

As a reminder, all UPK teachers should receive at least four days per year of professional development that advance the DOE’s instructional expectations. Teachers in their first year of using WSS should attend WSS sessions on the designated day (listed above, April 25). All teachers within one program do not need to receive professional development on the same day; it is up to the program to determine when to send teachers to PD, how to arrange classroom coverage, and how to notify families.

Public Schools

Wednesday, April 10 is a public school non-attendance day for pre-kindergarten students. Students should not attend school on this day; teachers should attend professional development.

OECE is offering a professional development session from 8:30am-3:30pm focusing on the Common Core instructional shifts in math. Teachers planning to attend this professional development session should attend the location listed for their district/school below. Due to space and staff capacity constraints, only lead teachers should attend these professional development sessions.  For the April professional development session, teachers should bring the following materials:

·         Identify a student that you would like to further support in the area of mathematics, and bring work samples from his/her portfolio related to the mathematics standards of the NYS Pre-K Foundation for the Common Core. (For example, this may be a student whose mathematics proficiency is significantly above or below average.)

The materials for the PD session are available here.  Teachers enrolled in the Work Sampling System professional development series will receive separate communication from Kelly Medora regarding dates and logistics.  Please contact the OECE with any questions (earlychildhood@schools.nyc.gov or 212-374-0351).
