All the rules of the USTA which govern match play and the traditional tennis code will be in effect. All matches are to be decided by a six (6) game pro set using no-ad scoring: Games are scored 15, 30, 40, game. At 40-40 (deuce), the receiver has the choice to receive from right or left service box.The winner of the deuce point wins the game. A nine point tie-break is utilized if the match is five games all.In all matches, the players themselves shall score and call all points of the match. It is the responsibility of the player to make the call on his or her side of the net. If he or she is unsure, the ball is good. If a player feels his or her opponent has a better view of the ball, he may ask for help in making the call. All calls such as two bounces, illegal carry or touches must be called by the player involved. There should be no replay of points due to uncertainty. If a controversy develops over the scoring or the calls, it is the right of the player to request from the Site Supervisor who will aid the players in scoring and calling the match.
The player whose turn it is to serve (Player A) is the server for the first and second points, into the right service box and then the left service box.Player B is the server for the third and fourth points, right and left. Players change ends.Player A then serves the fifth and sixth points, right and left.Player B serves the seventh and eight points, right and left.If the score reaches four points all, Player A serves the 9th and final point into either the right or left court, whichever Player B chooses. The game score will be recorded as 6-5 for the winning player.
Doubles: The same pattern as in singles applies, with partners preserving their serving sequence.
All schools participating in the 2009 Tennis League are eligible for the NYJTL Mayor's cup.
