On Sunday, March 10, 2013, CHAMPS and the American Youth Table Tennis Association (AYTTO) hosted the New York City Middle School Table Tennis League Championships. The event was composed of both CHAMPS and non-CHAMPS schools and was held at the Manhattan Academy of Technology (02M126).
145 Participants from 15 schools competed at this event and were joined by 90 spectators. Some of the city's most talented middle school table tennis players showed off their skills and zeal for table tennis.
At the end of the spectacular matches, it was time for the final game, pairing J.H.S. 216 (26Q216) coached by Paul Vigoda, against Brooklyn's J.H.S. 234 Arthur W. Cunningham (22K234), coached by Suraia Fattah. Both teams demonstrated great strategy and skill. After splitting the first four games, two a piece, it came down to the fifth and final game. The final game was hard fought and J.H.S. 216 took the victory with its students, coach, and Principal Reginald Landeau, Jr.
The championship games were a great opportunity for young student athletes to demonstrate their skills, display good sportsmanship, have fun, and meet other middle school table tennis players from around the city.
