Essence School Receives the Frank Garcia, Jr. Flag Football Memorial Award for 2012

On April 2, 2013, the Office of School Wellness Programs and CHAMPS presented the Frank Garcia, Jr. Flag Football Memorial Award to the Essence School (19K311).

The "Frank Garcia, Jr. Flag Football Memorial Award" was created to honor our deceased colleague and friend.  The award is given each year to the CHAMPS flag football team that best demonstrates the CHAMPS characteristics that Frank tirelessly promoted: Cooperative, Healthy, Activie, Motivated, Positive Students for Life.

Flag Football teammates Arturo Aquino and Jahlick Sutton each addressed the audience on behalf of their team.  Led by their Principal Claudy Makelele in addition to their coach and teacher Mary Calamari, the staff of the Essence School are dedicated to both student scholarship and health.  The school has a number of programs in place to increase student activity and their understanding of the importance of good nutrition.

The Essence Panthers Flag Football Team, Coach Calamrai, and Principal Makelele stood out as members of a school dedicated to physical fitness and student health.  We were honored to present them with the Frank Garcia, Jr. Flag Football Memorial Award for 2012.
