This year’s Summer Reading--sponsored by the NYC Public Library Systems and the Department of Education--promises to be the most exciting, the most engaging, and the most socially interactive one ever for teachers, students and families.  Your school’s involvement in Summer Reading will support students in becoming fluent and lifelong readers of both fictional and informational texts!

Visit the NYC Tri-library Summer Reading Website to participate.  http://www.summerreading.org/ or visit your local NYC public library branch.

COMMON CORE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SERIES (SUMMER 2012)

The Office of Library Services is offering a four-session Common Core Professional Development Series in the summer

The sessions are as follows:
Session 1:  The Common Core and Information Fluency Continuum Alignment
Session 2:  School Libraries and the Common Core State Standards:
Planning a Unit to meet the NYC DOE Citywide Instructional Expectations
Session 3:  School Libraries and the Common Core State Standards:  Planning Instruction
Session 4:  Text Exemplars and the School Librarian

These sessions work best as a group of workshops taken in sequential order.  As such, we are requiring attendance at all four workshops.  Because none of the sessions is a stand-alone, you will not be able to register for one workshop and not the others.

Summer Institute #1

Monday July 9 – 12; 9:00 – 4:00 pm

Summer Institute #2

Monday August 20 – 23; 9:00 – 4:00 pm

Registration is now open through Protraxx at http://pd.nycoit.org.   Locations are yet to be determined.  In the interest of general convenience, they will more than likely be in Manhattan.

If you have any questions, please contact Library Services at libraries@schools.nyc.gov.  Please note, additional sessions will be scheduled in the fall of 2012.
