New York State Science Assessments


New York State Science Program Evaluation Test (Grade 4)

This assessment, administered to students in grade 4, is designed to assess the content contained in the New York State Elementary Science Syllabi, Levels I and II, and the New York State Learning Standards of Mathematics, Science and Technology (Elementary Level). The test consists of two required components, 1) A written test which consists of multiple choice, constructed response and extended constructed response questions; 2) A performance test Form A which consists of three stations, where the students will perform a number of hands-on science tasks. New York State Intermediate Assessment in Science (Grade 8)
This assessment is administered to students in grade 8 and students in grade 7 who have completed all of the material in the Intermediate-Level Science Core Curriculum and are being considered for placement in an accelerated high school level science course in grade 8. This test is not required of eighth grade students who take the Science Regents Exam. The New York State Intermediate Assessment in Science is a two-hour test composed of three parts: multiple-choice, short and long open-ended questions. The assessment also requires a one-hour laboratory performance examination. New York State Regents Competency Tests (Grades 9-12)
These assessments are administered to students in grades 9-12. Students are required to pass tests in science. Previously administered versions of this test can be found at http://www.nysedregents.org/testing/hsregents.html
