Grant Description

The Title IIB MSP Science Grant of District 24 is a three year K-12 science professional development project.  The goal of the science grant is to expand and deepen the earth and environmental science content and pedagogical knowledge of K-12 teachers.  The project will service Community School District 24.  More than two hundred teachers from elementary, middle and high schools and non-public schools are targeted for thisprogram.  This science professional development initiative will provide three years of high quality professional development through a partnership with the Department of  Geology and the Department of Education at Brooklyn College of the City University of New York, the National Park Service and Bank Street College of Education-Tiorati Workshop for Environmental Learning.  The grant also provides middle and high school teachers in need of state certification with 18 credits of earth science.  Teachers participating in the program will be immersed in research-based pedagogy that helps them become more effective teachers and improve student performance.  All professional development will align with the NYC Science Scope and Sequence and the New York State Science Core Curriculum.
