STEM Summer in the City 2016

STEM Summer in the City, a free program designed to provide current 2nd - 10th graders the opportunity for an innovative, engaging, and fun summer learning program designed specifically around science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

In addition to weekly STEM challenges, involving coding & game design, developing engineering solutions and inventing with robotics, the program also includes enrichment opportunities in the Arts, Physical Education and includes trips to NYC cultural institutions. This summer we are offering a Minecraft track where all students will be able to build and share their creations in Microsoft's new Minecraft portal for schools.

  • Students are accepted into this program via a lottery. 
  • Program runs from July 7, 2016 to August 11, 2016
  • Monday through Thursdays from 8:30 - 2: 30 (the only Friday scheduled is July 8, 2016)
  • Breakfast and lunch are included
  • Metrocards are provided
  • There are two sites in each borough, one for the elementary program and the other for middle and high school students.

Application Process: 


Results of the lottery will be communicated to parents via email starting on June 16th.

  • Students Currently in Grade 2 
  • Students Currently in Grade 3
  • Students Currently in Grade 4
  • Students Currently in Grade 5
  • Students Currently in Grade 6
  • Students Currently in Grade 7
  • Students Currently in Grade 8
  • Students Currently in Grade 9
  • Students Currently in Grade 10

We ask for parental/guardian signed consent at the end of this online application.  Since these applications are mobile/tablet friendly, parents/guardians can sign the application using a phone, touch screen or mouse if accessing via a computer.

  • Selection will be done via lottery. Besides being in the specific grades for the program, students must have at least 90% attendance during the school year and not be required to attend summer school.
  • Parents will be notified of acceptance into this program via email starting next week and will be asked to accept the seat.  Any seat not accepted will move to the next student on the waiting list.  We should have all seats filled by the third week in June (week of June 20th).
  • Application guides in languages other than English and help with internet or device access are available by contacting your parent coordinator. Use the school search to get the name and contact information for the parent coordinator at your school.

If there are challenges in completing the online application, use the paper guides which translate the application questions.  We are NOT accepting paper applications for this program but you can bring your completed application guide to your parent coordinator who will help you complete the application online.  Print application guides:
