Health Services

School Health Services are designed to:

  • Address students' specific health needs
  • Ensure a safe educational environment that allows students to benefit from their primary educational program
  • Enhance the student's ability to access the least-restrictive environment
  • Participate to his/her full potential within it that environment

School Health Services may be provided by a professional registered nurse or a paraprofessional, depending on the nature of the need. Those provided by paraprofessionals usually support the students' Activities of Daily Living (ADL), and can include, but are not limited to:

  • Tansfers from wheelchair to adaptive equipment
  • Ambulation assistance,
  • Feeding
  • Dressing
  • Diapering and toileting assistance
  • Managing orthotics
  • Use of assistive communication or writing devices

NOTE: Medical documentation by a licensed physician or nurse practitioner is necessary before School Health Services can be provided by either a professional registered nurse or paraprofessional
