Mission Statement The Office of Special Education School Improvement, under the auspices of The New York City Department of Education’s Chief Achievement Office, Students with Disabilities and English Language Learners, is dedicated to promoting positive educational outcomes for students with disabilities. Special Education School Improvement teams, comprised of senior level educators with instructional, clinical, and operational expertise, are available throughout the city to support schools in meeting this objective. These teams provide specialized consultation in the development and implementation of action plans which focus upon improving the quality of educational programs and services provided to students with disabilities. By promoting sound instructional practices, efficient administrative, organization, and professional collaboration with school, district, and borough administration, Special Education Initiative teams facilitate the creation of effective instructional opportunities which benefit all students.
