Related Services Transportation Information
Parents/guardians may be reimbursed for expenses they incur in transporting their child to special education services under the following circumstances:
- For a preschool student recommended for Special Education Itinerant Teacher (SEIT) and/or related services, when the services are provided at a site to which transportation is required, and the DOE could not arrange for the services to be provided at home, preschool or child care location.
- For a school age student who is receiving Special Education Teacher Support Services (SETSS) and/or related services through a contracted agency or independent provider (P-4, RSA) if the services are provided at a site to which transportation is required, and the DOE was unable to arrange for the services to be provided at the student’s school or home (and the student is not able to travel to and from the location of service using his/her DOE-issued 3-trip Metrocard.)
- For a preschool or school age student whose Individualized Education Program (IEP) recommends specialized transportation, when the recommended transportation has not been arranged by the DOE’s Office of Pupil Transportation (OPT).
If, due to financial hardship, a parent/guardian is unable to pay for transportation and await reimbursement, the DOE will issue a Metro Card or make other arrangements where appropriate.
To submit a request for transportation reimbursement, complete and submit the Parent/Guardian Transportation Reimbursement Voucher for Special Education Services (Form TRV-1) , following the instructions provided on the form.
All other transportation questions are addressed on the Pupil Transportation page.
