Students are able to meet the Advanced Regents diploma language assessment requirement by passing the NYC Language Other Than English (LOTE) examination aligned to the Checkpoint B Learning Standard for LOTE. These regulations can be found here.
The LOTE exams are administered in two parts: the spoken portion of the exam is scheduled by the student's school. The written portion of all LOTE exams will be administered at 1:15 p.m. on Monday, June 19, 2017.
NYC will offer French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Latin, and Spanish LOTE June 2017 exams at NYC public and charter schools that offer these courses.
The NYC LOTE is also offered in the following low-incidence languages: Albanian, Arabic, Bengali, Chinese (simplified), Chinese (traditional), Greek, Haitian Creole, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Punjabi, Russian, Urdu and Vietnamese.
Students may need to travel to a different school site (hub site) to test in low-incidence languages. Students taking tests at a hub site will have to travel there twice--once for the spoken portion of the test and once for the written portion (June 19, 2017). Arrangements will be made by the student's home school.
