EVS Curriculum
|
In addition to the standard public school curriculum, EVS addresses the specialized needs of students who are blind or visually impaired, following the core curriculum of the National Agenda for Children and Youth with Visual Impairment. Resource Room (Supplemental Instruction Services) is also provided to enable students to participate fully in the regular educational settings.

EVS Referrals
|
Students are placed in EVS programs by referral only. No student will be placed without a report submitted by an eye doctor. Students are usually referred in one of three ways:
A parent or teacher refers the child to the school Committee on Special Education (CSE). The child is then evaluated by the specialized CSE for the Hearing Handicapped and Visually Impaired (HHVI).
A parent calls EVS to make inquiries and is referred to HHVI.
An eye doctor refers a child to the State Commission for the Blind and Visually Handicapped, which in turn ask the parent to contact HHVI.

Jobs for EVS Students
|
EVS arranges community based work experiences for eligible students. Job developers place students in the Summer Youth Employment Program and the Training Opportunities Program. Transition coordinators administer school-to-work assessments and prepare transition plans. EVS professionals support continuing school-to-work training and experience through classroom instruction and auxiliary services.
