Become an Education Council Candidate
|
Parents can nominate themselves for education councils by completing an application. Applications are available online at http://schools.nyc.gov/councils and from parent coordinators in every school. The application deadline is March 19. Members selected or appointed this year will serve a two-year term beginning July 1, 2007 and ending June 30, 2009.
Parents can call the Council's Hotline at (800) 850-6443 for more information about the selection process.

Selection of parent members
|
One parent per region is selected by the President, Secretary and Treasurer of every Parent Association and Parent-Teacher Association in the region. There will be regional forums at which candidates make presentations, after which attendees may submit written comments before the selection of Council members takes place. Elections for new members will be held beginning April 30th through May 8th. In addition, one high school senior will be appointed by the Chancellor to serve as a voting member for one year.
