Frequently Asked Questions
Sub-Topic Details
No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Program Students enrolled in what has been identified as ""a school in need of improvement"" have the option to transfer to another public school that has not been identified as ""a school in need of improvement"" during a specific time of the school year. Parents of students who are eligible for an NCLB transfer will be notified by mail of the schools to which the child is eligible to transfer, and will have a specified timeframe in which to respond. NCLB transfers will not be arranged outside of the specific transfer period.
If a transfer is not possible, the student may be eligible for supplemental education services.
Safety Transfers A safety transfer removes a child from an unsafe situation. Parents cannot select a specific school for placement. Placement is made where a seat is available. The parent and student must set up a meeting with a Principal's designee (from the sending school) to apply for a safety transfer.
Student Transfers Transfer requests must be approved by the superintendent of the region receiving the child. Most regions require that a written request or an application be completed. Once a transfer request is approved, a copy of the approval must be forwarded by the superintendent of the child’s current school. Generally, regions only consider request for variances (transfers) when there is a documented safety, medical or child care concern.

(NOTE: Transfer request must be made at the school where the child is currently enrolled, or at any of the Regional Learning Support Centers.)
