Submitting Your Design

You have the option of submitting your design online via email or by regular mail.

Make sure to read the Official Entry Guidelines carefully for more information about submission requirements.  

How to Submit Via Email

Emails must be received by February 24, 2012 at 11:59 pm EST. Entries received after this date will not be accepted.

Follow these steps to submit your design by email!

  1. Attach your design file to an email. Files must be low-resolution (under 2 MB) and submitted in one of the following extensions: .JPEG, .GIF, .PNG, or .PDF. 
  2. Attach your completed and signed Department of Education Consent Form.*
  3. Attach your completed and signed Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum Consent Form.*
  4. Set the subject line as "Cover Design Submission" as well as the first 4 digits of your birthday. Example: if your birthday is on March 12th, the subject line should be "Cover Design Submission 0312."
  5. Send your email to coverdesign@schools.nyc.gov.
Online submissions will receive a confirmation email within 24 hours. If you do not receive a confirmation email, the design was not received.  

How to Submit Via Regular Mail

Mail entries must be received by February 24, 2012. Entries received after this date will not be accepted.

Follow these steps to submit your design by regular mail!
  1. Have a color copy made of your original artwork and drop the copy in an envelope. Keep the original for yourself.
  2. Fill out a Mail-in Submission Form and include it in your envelope.
  3. Include your completed and signed Department of Education Consent Form.*
  4. Include your completed and signed Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum Consent Form.*
  5. Mail your package to:

                    ATTN: Cover Design Competition

Mail-in submissions will not be returned, so please be sure to submit a copy of your design.

*Consent Forms are available on the Resources page. You may email, fax, or mail the completed and signed consent forms to the Department of Education. All consent forms must be received by February 24, 2012. See the Official Entry Guidelines for details.

Important Submission Information

    • Only one design per student.
    • Designs must be original work of student.
    • Designs must be accompanied by signed consent forms.
    • 8.5 x 11 in original design for both front and back covers.
    • Designs may be created in any medium.
    • Submissions will not be returned. Please do not submit the only copy of the design.
