High School Round 2 Fair

All eighth and first-time ninth grade New York City residents are eligible to submit a Round 2 application this March. The Round 2 Fair allows interested students to get to know schools and programs with availability in Round 2. Continue reading for Round 2 Fair information, including tips on navigating the fair and frequently asked questions about Round 2.

Navigating the Round 2 Fair

  • Review the Round 2 Program List see what programs you are eligible for. Pay attention to the grade level, admissions method, and type of offer available—general education students, students with disabilities, or all.

  • Meet representatives from participating high schools and sign it at their tables. Use the floor directory provided at the Fair to learn where your schools are; schools will be organized by the boroughs in which they are located.

  • Learn about interviews and auditions being conducted for Screened and Audition programs with available offers in Round 2.

  • Speak to admissions experts. They can answer questions about your Round 1 offer letter and give you tips on completing your Round 2 application.

  • Keep in mind that there are different types of high school programs—they may have different admissions methods, program features and sometimes other requirements for admissions. For definitions and specific details on each school program, consult the High School Directory or check our Resources page for more information.

  • Remember: Your Round 2 application is due to your guidance counselor on Friday, March 20! So be sure to make a list of programs after the fair.

 

Round 2 Frequently Asked Questions


1. How do I apply for Round 2?
You can list up to 12 program choices on your Round 2 application. Students who did not receive an offer in Round 1 will find the Round 2 application with their Round 1 results letter. All students can request a copy of the application from their school guidance counselor or Family Welcome Center

2. When is the Round 2 application due?
The Round 2 application is due back to your guidance counselor on Friday, March 20.

3. What is the difference between Round 1 and Round 2?
In Round 1, you can apply to any program for which you are eligible which means you are in the program’s admissions priority groups as listed on the school’s page in the High School Directory. In Round 2, students must review the Round 2 Program List as not all programs have availability. Please note that the nine Specialized High Schools are not included in Round 1 or Round 2 applications, and you cannot apply to Specialized High Schools in Round 2.

4. Can I apply to any program?
Review the Round 2 Program List to see all programs with availability in Round 2. Availability varies vary by grade level (ninth or tenth), admissions method, and type of offer available (general education, students with disabilities, or all), so read through carefully to ensure you are eligible for programs you are interested in.

5. I received an offer in Round 1. Should I apply in Round 2?
Students who received an offer in Round 1 and are interested in other programs are welcome to apply in Round 2. A Round 2 offer will replace a Round 1 offer: if you change your mind after receiving a Round 2 offer, your appeal to get your Round 1 offer back will not be considered. If you do not receive an offer in Round 2, you keep your Round 1 offer.

6. What if I do not receive an offer to a program in Round 2?

  • If you received an offer in Round 1 and you then submit a Round 2 application and do not receive an offer from one of your application choices, you will retain your Round 1 offer. In other words, if you do not receive a Round 2 offer, you keep your Round 1 offer.

  • If you did not receive an offer in Round 1 or Round 2 from one of your application choices, you will be assigned a high school program with availability as close to your home as possible.

7. Should I apply to the same schools in Round 2 as I did in Round 1, if they have availability in Round 2?
Students can apply to any program that has availability for their student group. If you did not receive an offer to one of your choices in Round 1, here are some things you can do to increase the chances of receiving an offer in Round 2:

  • Include a variety of admissions methods on your application

  • Apply to schools in which you are in a higher priority group (e.g. Priority 1)

  • Add more choices on your application; at least 9 choices is recommended, but you have 12 choices on the application

8. Is my zoned program guaranteed in Round 2?
Zoned guarantee programs offer a guarantee to students who live in the zoned neighborhood. Students must apply to the program by putting it on their Round 1 or Round 2 application.
