To promote quality and strengthen the portfolio of Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs available in New York City schools, the NYCDOE CTE office encourages high schools with CTE programs to earn recognized endorsement through the New York State Education’s Program Approval Process (PAP).
The Program Approval Process recognizes CTE programs that provide its students with essential academic and technical content, as well as experiential learning opportunities, that will prepare them to pursue productive post-secondary education and careers. The process is a central lever for holding schools accountable for implementing quality CTE programs.
Programs that are endorsed by the state qualify for supplementary federal funding. Students who complete all requirements of a state-approved CTE program of study and meet all other high school graduation requirements also receive a technical endorsement on their graduating high school diplomas.
