Funding for Career and Technical Education Programs

New York City receives an annual allocation from the federal Vocational and Technical Education Act (VTEA), also known as the Perkins Act; DOE disburses these funds to CTE programs by competitive application. We now require progress toward program approval in order to retain eligibility for VTEA receipt:

  • For school year 2013-14, established programs must have completed a Self-Evaluation Form (SEF) that includes significant detail on each of the five quality indicators to remain eligible for VTEA
  • For school year 2014-15, DOE will award VTEA funds only to programs that have secured state approval
  • By 2015, only state-approved programs will receive full VTEA support.

Schools eligible to apply in school year 2014-2015 can review these VTEA Application Guidelines 2014-2015.
