Summer School

2013 Summer School Information

Summer school provides students with additional instructional support to ensure that they achieve proficiency in NYS Learning Standards and NYC Performance Standards in order to move on to the next grade level. Summer school is encouraged for those students in grades 3-12 who have not yet met the promotion standards to move on to the next grade level.  To find out more about summer school requirements and eligibility, see Chancellor’s Regulation A-501

Individual schools administer summer school. If you have a question about whether your child should attend summer school, please contact the principal at your child's school.

The summer school calendar is now available. Please refer to this document for key dates regarding the NYC DOE's summer school program.

Non-Resident Students:

  • Students who do not reside in New York City are eligible to attend summer school provided that they meet certain eligibility criteria and pay tuition. Please refer to the forthcoming guidance document  on the admission of non-resident students and the non-resident student enrollment application for more information. 

For pedagogical and school based support staff:

  • The online application tool to apply for 2013 summer school positions is now available for current and former DOE employees. Any applications submitted after Tuesday, May 21, 2013 will be marked late and will be considered only after the review of appplications received on or before May 21. Employees requiring assistance in accessing the SSIP application should contact HR Connect at 718-935-4000.
