Admissions Policy

September 2006 Admissions

As most of you know (via mail) there will be an orientation this Wednesday (6/7/06) evening here at Mark Twain for incoming 6th graders as well as a busing meeting sponsored by our Parents' Association prior to the orientation. Specific questions pertaining to your child should be addressed at that time or can be phoned into the admissions office at 718-449-6697. Specific programming issues are generally not going to be answered. Those are in process right now and will continue to be in flux through the first day of school.

If your question is about why your child was NOT accepted to Mark Twain, those must be addressed to Region 7 directly. They handle the actual selections process. We have no input once test results are forwarded to the Region.

September 2007 Admissions

No truly accurate information regarding next year's admissions process is available at this time. Gifted & Talented programs in NYC are in flux and our specific situation is impacted by those changes to some extent annually

Assuming no major changes, the process will only be only to students starting 5th grade in September 2006. Students attending District 21 elementary and K-8 schools will have their eligibility determined automatically based on their records through grade 4. All other students must directly contact the Admissions office at 718-449-6697 and keep an eye on this web site for their specific instructions. Generally we urge out of district parents to contact us in October. Hopefully there will be more specific information available at that time.
