AMAZIN’ METS VISIT AMAZIN’ I.S. 228
Outfielder Daniel Murphy and Pitcher Jon Niese of the New York Mets, accompanied by “Mr. Met,” visited an assembly of the sixth graders at David A. Boody Middle School (I.S. 228) Monday to praise the students for their 96 percent attendance record.
The players came to the school in Gravesend, Brooklyn, as part of the “School is Amazing” program sponsored by health insurer Emblem Health and supported by the New York Department of Education. The Mets were greeted by Boody’s new cheerleading squad and the school’s Jazz Band, which recently played on the deck of the Intrepid.
Niese won a huge round of cheers from the students when he said he had been in his school’s band. “I played saxophone and tuba,” he said, after revealing his favorite academic subject was math. Murphy also said his favorite subject was math.
Principal Dominick A. D’Angelo thanked the Mets for taking time to visit the school
