Change of date for the first day of school

June 26, 2009

Dear Parent/Guardian:

A change has been made citywide concerning the opening of school for the 2009-2010 school year.  Schools were originally to open on Tuesday September 8th for students.

The Chancellor has announced that due to an agreement with the United Federation of Teachers (UFT), UFT members do not have to report back to work until after Labor Day.  With that said, he announced last evening that students in all NYC Public Schools will now report back to school for the new school year on Wednesday September 9th.

Wednesday September 9th will be a full day of school for all students at P.S. 236 with the exception of Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten classes.  Those students entering these grades will receive a separate notice from P.S. 236 by mail with specifics as to the time of the school day for children.

As a result, school will now end for the 2009-2010 school year on Monday June 28, 2010 with a half day of school.  Dismissal on that date will be at noon.

Please make these changes in your calendar.

Thank you and have a great summer!

Yours truly,

Mary Barton

Principal
