Foundations provide critical philanthropic support for The Fund for Public Schools, making numerous initiatives possible for New York City public schools. Foundation support is imperative as the New York City Department of Education continues to implement reforms system-wide to ensure all 1.1 million public school students receive the education they deserve.
In the past few years foundations have enabled the New York City Department of Education to revamp its entire human resources infrastructure, increase the ability to assess school and student performance through the Accountability Initiative, and assist overage students to graduate through the Multiple Pathways to Graduation program.
There are many programs for foundations to support that directly impact students across the city. For example, foundations could support increased access to arts resources for all students, develop a scholarship program that helps students pay for college, or initiate a program focused on improving the quality and number of librarians throughout the city.
