INDIVIDUALS
Over the past four years, New York City public schools have been continually improving, thanks to generous individuals throughout the city who are deeply committed to helping our students succeed.

Individuals can support New York City public schools in numerous ways.  Financial contributions help with the renovation of libraries, creation of arts programs, and the development of general education programs.

Volunteering time is an invaluable way to make a difference in a child’s life. There are thousands of organizations across the city that support public schools and provide opportunities to get involved. If you are interested in volunteering, mentoring, or contributing your expertise or resources to a particular public school, please consider volunteering with one of the organizations listed below.
Mayor's Volunteer Center
Founded in 1967, the Mayor's Volunteer Center of New York City connects New Yorkers with meaningful volunteer opportunities that significantly improve the quality of life in New York City. To learn more, call the Mayor's Volunteer hotline at 311. Learn more
New York Cares
Every year, New York Cares mobilizes tens of thousands of volunteers to take part in a wide variety of flexibly scheduled, team-based projects -- including tutoring, reading to children, and much more -- that can have a dramatic impact on the lives of young New Yorkers in need. Learn more
Learning Leaders
Learning Leaders is dedicated to serving New York City's public schools by recruiting, screening, training, mentoring and other enrichment services to public school students across our City. Learn more
PENCIL (Public Education Needs Civic Involvement)
PENCIL Encourages greater private sector participation in New York's public education system. In addition to its highly successful Principal for a Day program, PENCIL also operates the PENCIL Box, which enables New Yorkers to make in kind donations of goods and services to public schools. Publicolor
Publicolor is an innovative program that helps to transform public spaces in neglected schools and neighborhood facilities through the powers of vibrant color and organized collaboration. Publicolor volunteers work in teams to paint classrooms, cafeterias and more. Learn more
EVERYBODY WINS!
EVERYBODY WINS! is a leading national literacy and mentoring non-profit organization devoted to increasing children's prospects for success in school and in life through one-to-one reading experiences. Learn more
Junior Achievement
Junior Achievement of New York (JANY) provides age-appropriate financial literacy, workforce readiness and entrepreneurial programs to students in grades K-12 in classrooms throughout New York City and in after school programs with community-based partners. The programs are delivered by trained corporate and community volunteers. JANY also offers workplace visits and Job Shadow experiences. JANY's mission is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy.  Learn more
