SCHOOLS CHANCELLOR JOEL I. KLEIN ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF STEPHANIE P. DUA AS CEO OF THE FUND FOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Schools Chancellor Joel I. Klein today announced the appointment of Stephanie P. Dua as Chief Executive Officer of the Fund for Public Schools. The Fund for Public Schools is the nonprofit organization affiliated with the Department of Education (DOE) that works to increase private support of public education. Ms. Dua, who has served as interim CEO since May, will continue to report to the Fund’s Board of Directors.

“I am delighted that Stephanie will bring her strong record of building partnerships and support to this new role,” said Chancellor Klein, who is Chairman of the Fund for Public Schools. “Her commitment to increasing private investment in public education will help ensure consistent funding for our priority initiatives and enable our students to reach their full potential.”

Ms. Dua came to the Department of Education in 2005 as director of the Office of Strategic Partnerships. Before joining the DOE Ms. Dua worked at the Robin Hood Foundation, where she helped oversee the organization’s $50 million initiative to build libraries in more than fifty high-poverty New York City elementary schools. Previously, Ms. Dua was a management consultant at McKinsey & Company. She holds a masters degree in Public Policy from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and graduated summa cum laude from the University of California at Los Angeles with a B.S. in Geology.

The Fund for Public Schools plays a pivotal role in improving public education in New York City by strengthening the DOE’s relationship with the private sector and supporting system-wide reforms. Working with the DOE’s Office of Strategic Partnerships, the Fund secures critical funding for education reform initiatives; helps businesses create partnerships and programs to support city schools; and reaches out to the entire city to create awareness about the needs of the public schools.

The Fund’s Board of Directors includes, along with Chancellor Klein, Vice-Chairs Caroline Kennedy and Mortimer Zuckerman.
