On June 6, 2007, the New York City Mentoring Program and the New York Mets celebrated mentoring by honoring the 2007 Mentor ~ Mentee Pair of the Year with a spring event at Shea Stadium. At the pre-game show, Rocco Laginestra, mentor of the year from CB Richard Ellis, and Christopher Vargas, mentee of the year from Alfred E. Smith High School, were brought onto the playing field and recognized along with other program participants from the CB Richard Ellis and Alfred E. Smith High School mentoring program. Afterwards, the group took their seats to enjoy an evening of fun and excitement as the New York Mets played the Philadelphia Phillies.
Thanks to the generosity of the New York Mets, 500 New York City Mentoring Program mentees, mentors, coordinators and chaperones also enjoyed a wonderful spring evening of baseball. For many of the students, this was their first time attending a professional baseball game. During the game, there was much excitement in the air, especially when the New York Mets secured a 2-0 lead early on. Despite the Philadelphia Phillies gaining control of the game with a 4-2 lead in the eighth inning and winning, everyone’s enthusiasm continued to shine through and a great time was had by all!
The New York City Mentoring Program is grateful to the New York Mets for supporting mentoring and providing this rare opportunity to program participants. Mentors and mentees were able to share an evening with each other and enjoy a great night of baseball!!
