Santa visits Harlem school

Santa hands out presents to students at PS 208 in Harlem

Santa doesn't always come down the chimney.
Sometimes he bursts through the door of a school gym, just like he did last week at PS 208 in Harlem.

"Santa is in the building!" PS 208 Principal Susan Green declared.

In November, nearly 200 students from the school wrote letters to Santa asking for specific Christmas gifts. Macys.com received the letters, which requested everything from dictionaries and storybooks to skateboards and videogames, and granted the students' wishes. Santa and his elves gave out the gifts during the school visit.

"I was so excited when Santa ran into the room," fourth grader Dominique Sway said. "It is so great that he is here at our school."

Fourth grader Odyssey Fields said she was extremely grateful for her present from Santa, a pair of brand new figure skates.

"I'm so appreciative because ice skating is my favorite thing, and I go all of the time," she said.

Principal Green said she was overjoyed by the generosity.

"These gifts let the children know that there are people who care about them," she said. "For many of these kids, this might be the only present they receive. Today is nothing short of a blessing."
