Brooklyn school gets Smart

A Brooklyn elementary school is going high-tech thanks to a donation from its corporate partner.

CIBC Bank recently gave PS 225 in Brighton Beach $15,000 to buy Smart Boards and projectors for six of its classrooms. A virtual "blackboard," the technology allows teachers to integrate electronic note-taking, e-mail, and the Web into their lesson plans.

"P.S. 225’s mission statement is 'I Believe In Me,' and with the help of the grant, this mission will continue to flourish," Principal Joseph Montebello said. "One of the school’s major technology goals is to have updated and state of the art technology equipment in every classroom. We believe that this is vital to the acquisition of skills and work attitudes that will serve our students throughout their lives."

The school and the bank were matched through PENCIL, which runs the annual Principal for a Day Program and is dedicated to partnering public schools with private-sector businesses and business leaders.
