At I.S. 228, the David A. Boody School in Brooklyn, Room 109 has been transformed into an art gallery of students’ work. The paintings and drawings represent the creativity of 90 students in the school’s art studies program. The students used a vibrant array of colors to depict abstract works as well as drawings of wild animals in front of bold backgrounds.
The paintings will be on display throughout the winter. They were first unveiled during an art show the day before the winter break.
“It’s exciting that your good work can be acknowledged and appreciated,” said Eighth Grader Grace Ouyang, who has three paintings on display.
"The art show was a success and full of many different kinds of artwork," said 8th Grader Connie Tan.
"The first art show was a great experience," said 8th Grader Arif Kodza. "It was a great time to realize all the great artwork done by the students and to allow them to show off their skills to their parents and friends."
More than 200 people viewed the artwork at the show, which was presented in a specially decorated room in the Gravesend school two hours before the Dec. 22 concert, performed by the 80-piece Boody Symphony Orchestra, the Concert Band, the Jazz Band, and the Boody Chorus.
“It was an evening of the arts,” said Principal Dominick A. D’Angelo. “For years, audiences have enjoyed spectacular performances from one of the city’s finest middle-school orchestras. Now they get to see the equally spectacular work by one of the city’s finest middle-school art programs.”
