Students Celebrate Constitution's 222nd Birthday

P.S. 160 students present the Preamble.

On September 17, 2009 the auditorium at P.S. 160 in Brooklyn was filled with children celebrating the 222nd birthday of the United States Constitution

Dressed in red, white and blue boater hats, fifth grade students held a large copy of the United States Constitution, while others presented the Preamble as a poem in two voices. One student recited the Preamble and another explained the significance of this great document in child-friendly language.

"I learned that the Constitution is important to the United States because it shows us that we have freedom," said Fourth Grader Joyce Cao. "The Constitution is a big part of our country. It shows us the laws and rights of all citizens," Fifth Grader Srinidhi Rao stated.

"As a school with so many different cultures and so many immigrant students it is very important to learn about the Constitution." "The students were taught the Constitution is the backbone and framework of our great country," stated Fifth Grade Teacher Jeannie McSharry.

The teachers followed the presentation with various lessons about the Constitution.
