Nominate a teacher for the 2018 Big Apple Awards by Monday, November 27.
With thousands of nominations each year, the Big Apple Awards selection process engages educators, principals, superintendents, district staff, and a DOE Board of Judges to thank dedicated teachers, celebrate teaching excellence, and consider candidates for the Big Apple Awards. Learn more by reading details about our process below.
In the spring, recipients receive surprise classroom visits from the Chancellor, Deputy Chancellors, and other members of the NYC education community, notifying them of their award. This allows us to honor and celebrate these exceptional teachers in the presence of their students and colleagues.
In the school year following the award, recipients serve as Big Apple Fellows, in addition to continuing their amazing work in the classroom. They serve on the Chancellor's Teacher Advisory Group and meet monthly to further develop and lead through their classroom. Through these experiences, the fellows have a platform to broaden their impact in education. Learn more about the Big Apple Fellowship Year
