For the 32 Community Education Councils, members are selected by the President, Secretary and Treasurer of every Parent and Parent-Teacher Association (PA/PTA) in the district. These three PA/PTA officers are known as the “Parent Selectors.” There are public meetings held in each community school district where the candidates are able to make presentations to the Parent Selectors, other parents and the community.
Anyone attending these public meetings can submit written comments that are shared with the Parent Selectors. Following these public meetings, each PA/PTA is strongly encouraged to hold membership meetings to obtain additional feedback on the candidates.
Each Parent Selector receives a ballot with the names of all candidates in that district listed in alphabetical order. Each Parent Selector can vote for any two candidates, and the nine candidates with the highest number of votes are selected. Ballots are submitted to an independent agent hired to manage and validate the selection process.
