Procedures to be followed for Selling to the New York City Department of Education

|
Important The steps in selling to the Department of Education which are outlined below are intended to serve as an informal overview of the current contracting and procurement procedures only. Actual legal requirements are provided in the actual bid and contract documents commonly referred to as the "Standard Form of Contract Proposal." We urge you to request a copy from one of our purchasing agents! |
Getting on the Bidder's List
The very first step in doing business with the Department of Education is to get on the Division of Contracts and Purchasing's Bidder's List - a computerized Vendor Master Listing. Upon receipt of the necessary information from your company, you will be placed on our Bidder's List, assigned a vendor number (code) and will begin to receive information about contract bidding opportunities for items/ services that your organization may provide to our schools and offices. The assignment of a vendor code (number) does not constitute a contract between your firm and the Department of Education, nor does it guarantee that you will receive a copy of a Request for Proposal (RFP) or Request for Bid (RFB.) It's simply a code that enables the Division of Contracts and Purchasing to generate a mailing to vendors.
The Vendor Number will be monitored for your responsiveness. If your company chooses not to respond to a particular solicitation, we urge you to return the Non-Bidder's Response Form that accompanies every procurement package, providing a reason for such response. Firms that consistently fail to respond to a solicitation, or do not return a Non-Bidder's Response Form may be removed from the rotation list, and consequently will no longer be solicited for those particular goods or services. |

Schools and other Department of Education sites may refer to our Bidder's List in the event they wish to make a direct purchase for a particular commodity that is needed for an educational or administrative program(s). |
