Workers' Compensation Laws are enacted to protect employees against loss of earning power through injury sustained in their employment.
The New York City Department of Education (DOE) is committed to providing the dedicated service necessary to process claims expeditiously and accurately.
The New York City Law Department Workers' Compensation Division determines the validity of claims based on documentation submitted by the DOE. Therefore it is essential that the following procedures be followed: Employee
Notify your supervisor immediately of the occurrence. Obtain first aid or medical treatment.
Inform the attending physician that your injury or illness is work related.
Make sure that the forms are filled out accurately and signed by the Supervisor or authorized person in your school/office.
IMPORTANT NOTES Always obtain care from a Workers' Compensation authorized doctor.
Be certain to provide the DOE with all essential information regarding your claim, eg lost time, date or return to work, notification of any reoccurrences, etc. so that this information can be reported to The Law Department in a timely manner, thus avoiding penalties. Supervisor/Payroll Secretary
Ensure that the employee has received emergency medical treatment if needed.
Instruct the employee to complete and return the following forms:

Hearings Employee - The employee is obliged to appear at the NYS Workers' Compensation Board when notified about a hearing regarding his or her case. (3 hours of time spent is charged to the Department of Education).
Supervisor - The Supervisor is responsible for in supplying witnesses upon request from the DOE. |
