Health Benefits
: The HR Connect Health Benefits Office handles eligibility, enrollment, and elections relating to New York City Department of Education (DOE) health insurance coverage for employees.
Leaves of Absence
: The HR Connect Leaves of Absence Administration Office handles applications when DOE employees need to be absent from work for an extended period of time. This includes Line of Duty Injuries (LODI), Health Sabbaticals, Study Sabbaticals, leaves without pay, medical leaves, borrowing CAR days, personal illness, and more.
Medical Administration
: The HR Connect Medical Administration Office and its physicians determine whether a person is “fit for duty,” evaluate medical leave requests and Line of Duty Injury (LODI) applications, determine eligibility for Board of Education Retirement System (BERS) disability retirement, and assess requests for accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Occupational Safety and Health
: The Office of Occupational Safety and Health (OOSH) was created on January 2, 1990 to provide the DOE with the safety and health expertise necessary to ensure that the New York City public school system is in compliance with federal, state, and city safety and health regulations.
