College Level Examination Program (CLEP)

Teachers, school secretaries, and paraprofessionals can receive college credits by earning qualifying scores on College Level Examination Program (CLEP) tests. Subject to limitations, CLEP credits earned in professional education subjects and other appropriate subjects may be applied towards meeting the certification/licensing requirements of the New York State Education Department and/or the New York City Department of Education.

Appropriate CLEP credits may also be applied toward salary differentials. Click for detailed information about salary differentials.

For more information about CLEP, including test description, content, requirements, and scoring, visit the College Board’s CLEP Web site.

All CLEP tests are administered on a computer, and you will be given a Candidate Score Report immediately after the test. To view a list of CLEP test centers, please visit the College Board’s CLEP Test Centers Web site.

Please note: CLEP Limitations
You may NOT use CLEP credit to duplicate a subject for which you already have been granted undergraduate or graduate course credit.

Please note: Professional Education Subjects
Some of the required professional education credits may be gained by passing the "Human Growth and Development" (3 credits) and/or "Introduction to Educational Psychology" (3 credits) CLEP tests.

Please note: Other Appropriate Subjects
For details on appropriate subjects, contact HR Connect at (718) 935-4000. HR Connect is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
