How to Read a Salary Schedule
Listed vertically down the left-hand side of the schedule are salary steps. An employee will move one step for each semester of satisfactory service.
Listed horizontally across the top of each salary schedule are the salary differentials. An employee is eligible to move horizontally across the schedule as s/he increases her/his level of learning. Note that the second-from-the-left column on each schedule is labeled “base”. This column represents the salary of an employee who has not yet earned a salary differential.
Important Reminders about Salary Steps and Differentials
Newly hired school-based staff who reported their prior work experience in their online applications for employment will be automatically assigned an initial salary step and do not need to submit a separate salary step application.
Appointed teachers are eligible to receive credit for a maximum of seven and a half years of prior qualifying professional experience (up to salary step 8B) toward salary step credit.
Appointed guidance counselors, schools psychologists, social workers, lab specialists, and school secretaries are eligible to receive credit for a maximum of five years of prior qualifying professional experience (up to salary step 6A) toward salary step credit.
Non-appointed staff are eligible to receive credit for a maximum of three years of prior qualifying professional experience (up to salary step 4A) toward salary step credit.
Non-appointed staff cannot advance beyond step 4A.
Salary differential credit is not granted automatically. If you think you are eligible, you must submit a salary differential application.
