Early Childhood

By promoting best practices in instructional and supplemental support and related services for students in the early years, District 75 is able to identify and target specific needs of students and thereby maximize learning outcomes.

Our Early Childhood classes serve 3 and 4 year olds in Pre-kindergarten and students 5-7 years old in K-2 classes. While some classes are in self-contained buildings, many are located within a community school, thus affording the students the opportunity to interact with their general education peers in close proximity to their zone school, congruent with the Special Education Reform. District 75’s instructional practices are guided by the Individualized Educational Program (IEP) developed for each student. The IEP is created initially by the Committee on Special Education (CSE), for students in Kindergarten to Grade 2 or the Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE), for students ages 3 and 4.

In all District 75 early childhood classes, the cognitive, social, emotional and physical development of each student is carefully monitored and goals and objectives are created to focus on these areas. Given the wide range of developmental, cognitive, language, emotional and/or behavioral challenges of our students, many programmatic and instructional methodologies and assessments are implemented.
