Wireless - Configuration for Windows XP
WINDOWS XP laptops:

 

(WINDOWS XP): DELL D505/ D600, with WLAN 1350/1400 client adapter .

1.1 Desktop: Wireless Utility
  1. Go to Start / Programs / WLAN card
  1. Also on The Desk Top: WLAN utility Icon.
  1. Click on the 1300 WLAN Mini-PCI Card Utility.

1.2 Desktop Wireless Utility
  1. Make sure Let this tool manage your wireless settings
    and Enable Radio buttons are checked
  1. Click on the Add button

1.3 SSID Network Configuration
  1. Fill in the SSID
  1. Make sure that the Network Authentication field is set to Open
  1. Make sure that Data Encryption field is set to WEP
  1. Enter the Unique WEP key in the Network key field.
  1. Network key should be set to 1
  1. Make sure the key is provided for me automatically remains unchecked
  1. Click ok

1.1 Intel Proset 2200 Utility
  1. The Intel Proset Utility Icon should be on the desktop.
  2. If it is not: START / PROGRAMS / Intel PROset.
1.2 Wireless network Found :
  1. This is the window you see when the card is active.
  2. Click on Profile: you need to create a new one.

  1. Click on ADD to create an appropriate profile.

  1. Enter a Profile Name: NOT The SSID.
  1. Then Enter Windows Network Name: the (SSID)
  1. Click Next

1.5 Security
  1. Click on Enterprise Security tab.
  1. This will bring you to the next window.
  2. Click Next

Network Authentication
  1. Network Authentication: OPEN.
  2. Data Encryption: WEP.
  1. Encryption Level: default to 64 bit.
  2. Wireless security Password: Enter the WEP key.
  1. Click OK

1.7 Activating to Profile
  1. Highlight the Profile you created.
  2. Click on Connect.

  1. Fill in the Profile Name: Not the SSID name
  1. Then fill in the "SSID"
  1. Make sure Infrastructure is selected under Operation Mode
  1. Everything else should be left Unchecked.

  1. Set Network Authentication to Open
  2. Data Encryption should be
  3. selected for WEP
  4. Check Set Manual Key and Encryption Level to 64bit
  5. Under Encryption Key Settings Select Use hex key and type in your unique school WEP key.
  6. Leave everything else unchecked
  7. Click Finish

  1. Highlight the profile you just created and clickConnect"
  1. Click OK when done
  1. Verify IP connectivity and make sure you can go out to the internet.

  2. For Network Connection: Chose Wireless LAN (802.11).
  3. Everything else leave UNCHECKED
  4. Click NEXT
  1. This window will automatically detect your adapter: 11 a,b,g Wireless Adapter
  2. Click NEXT.

1.5 Edit TCP/IP Setting
  1. Select Obtain an IP Address Automatically
  1. Then : Click on Obtain DNS
1.6 Edit Advanced DNS
  1. Do not change anything here: this should be default: Use the Current Advanced DNS setting.
  2. Go to NEXT

1.7 Edit Wireless Network Settings
  1. By Network Name : enter the SSID.
  1. Connection Type : Access Point
  1. Wireless Security Type : Scroll down and choose: USE STATIC WEP
  1. Connection Type: Choose Access Point
  2. Next

  1. Access point Authentication: OPEN
  2. Data Encryption: WEP-64 bit
  3. Click on : 10 Hexadecimal digits
  4. Enter the KEY: xxxxxxx
  5. Go to: NEXT

1.5 Edit Your TCP/IP Settings
  1. Select Obtain IP Address automatically
  1. Select Obtain DNS server address automatically Click NEXT.

  1. Select Use the current Advanced DNS settings

Edit Wireless Network Settings
  1. By Network Name : enter the SSID.
  2. Connection Type : Access Point
  1. Wireless Mode : 802.11a or 802.11g Depending on the card
  1. WEP Type : Enabled
  2. Next

(ADU) Aironet Desktop Utility : External Cisco Wireless 802.11 ABG card.

1.1 Start Cisco ADU client (A/B/G tri-band Card configuration)
  1. Go to Start
  2. Go to Programs
  3. Then ADU utility.
  4. Or look for the icon on the desk top.

1.2 Starting the ADU client
  1. Open up the Cisco ADU client.
  2. Go to the Profile Management tab and click on New.

1.3 Profile and SSID
  1. Under the General tab, enter the school code for the Profile name.
  1. Enter the SSID.

  1. Click on the Security tab.
  2. Click on the radio button for Pre-Shared Key (Static WEP).
  3. Then click on configure.

1.5 WEP Key
  1. Make sure Hexadecimal is checked
  2. Enter the WEP key.
  3. Make sure you are using 40 bit encryption.
  4. Click OK and go back to the main utility window.
  5. Click on the Profile you created and Activate.

(ACU) Aironet Client Utility : External Cisco Aironet 350 B/ Wireless Client Adapters using:

1.1 Cisco ACU client (350 cards or CB20A).
  1. This is only for the ACU client.
  2. Go to Start / All Programs / Cisco ACU.

  1. Click on Profile Manager. Enter school ID as the profile name.
  2. Click on ADD
  3. Then Apply and to next window.

  1. Enter the SSID under System Parameters.
  2. Leave everything else as the default .
  3. Click OK.

  1. Set Network Authentication to None
  2. Click on the Network Security tab.
  3. Under Data Encryption, click the Static WEP radio tab. Then click Static WEP keys.
  4. Access Point Authentication should be set to Open

1. WEP Key
  1. Make sure you click on Hexadecimal tab.
  2. Enter the WEP key. Make sure you are using 40 bit encryption.
  3. Click OK all the way to exit the ACU.
  1. Check to see you have IP connectivity and make sure you can go out to the internet.
