Programs & Activities
The Office of Adult and Continuing Education’s mission is to empower adults in their roles as parents, family members, workers and community members. We promote lifelong learning and the development of problem solving skills through a continuum of services, including Adult Basic Education, English for Speakers of other Languages, High School Equivalency, and Career and Technical Education.
FaceLab is a family engagement initiative that trains parent volunteers in K-8 schools to support teachers in leading hands-on robotics and technology activities with students. Research demonstrates that strong parental involvement improves student outcomes, including academic achievement, as well as their social and emotional development. To that end, FaceLab is designed to increase parents’ expertise and direct involvement in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) education.
The Family English Initiative (FEI) is a family engagement pilot program featuring a two-generation approach to strengthening language skills. FEI targets K-2 English language learners (ELLs) and their parents to learn English as a family. By improving language skills, FEI helps families build the confidence, relationships, and tools needed to be active partners in their child’s education.
