    Partner with Parent Academy

Parent Academy has partnerships with outstanding programs at cultural institutions including the New Victory Theater, The Staten Island Museum , and the Museum of the Moving Image. With these partnership organizations, Parent Academy is able to offer fun, cooperative workshops on a variety of academic and creative topics.

Parent Academy trainings are aligned with the Department of Education’s Partnership Standards for Schools and Families. The Partnership Standards help parents, teachers and school leaders work together to help students succeed.

The training sessions will help schools improve their existing parent engagement practices around the five Partnership Standards: Fostering Communication, Encouraging Parent Involvement, Creating Welcoming Schools, Partnering for Student Success and Collaborating Effectively.

Schools should participate because the Parent Academy offers:

    • Ongoing professional development workshops – Schools enrolled in Parent Academy can send representatives to workshops facilitated by Long Island University professionals throughout the year. Workshop topics will cover areas within the Partnership Standards. The Parent Academy will strive to ensure that workshops are held in locations convenient to your school.
    • Opportunities for networking and collaborating with your peers – Selected schools will work with a peer group of 6-8 area-schools to refine and develop best practices around family engagement.
    • Access to online resources for direct and “turnkey” training models – Training videos, presentations, and other resources will be available to school-based teams to reinforce the lessons learned during professional development workshops. Materials will be adaptable to encourage teams to, in turn, train others within their school communities (i.e., “turnkey” training) to enhance parent engagement within their schools.
    • Direct assistance from Parent Academy staff – Selected schools will have the opportunity to receive individualized support from Parent Academy staff.
